How much money can I save using a safety razor?

2 min read.
All pricing are in NZD and based on the New Zealand market.
Let’s just look at razor blades for today.

Disposable razors

Disposable razor costs on average $1.68 per razor and lasts on average about 4 shaves. This costs $0.42.
However this price does not include the post consumer cost of environmental pollution and animal suffering.

Cartridge razor blade

Cartridge razor blade costs on average $4.83 per razor and lasts on average about 4 shaves. This costs $1.21.
Again, however this price does not include the post consumer cost of environmental pollution and animal suffering.

Safety razor blade

Safety razor blade costs $3 for 5 blades is $0.60 every blade lasts you say 4-7 shaves let’s go with 5. each shave will cost you $0.12-0.15 (4-5 shaves per blade). The blades are completely recyclable, but not in your normal recycling bin!
Assuming one shaves 3 times a week, in a year you will have spent the following amount only on blades: Disposable: $51.10 (in 10 years $511.00) Cartridge razor blade: $147.21 (10yrs $1472.10) Safety razor: $14.60 (10yrs $146.00)

Lifetime

Let’s say one shaves for another 60 years (assuming everything’s equal (no inflation etc)):
Disposable: $3,066 Cartridge razor blade: $8,832.60 Safety razor: $876
Now tell me, what would you do with an extra $7,956.60?
